Heart of K-Culture
Everyone was dancing along to Gangnam Style in 2012. Everyone knows Dalgona candy, the pink guard costumes and green tracksuits from the hit Netflix series Squid Game. The film, ‘Parasite,’ the best picture Oscar winner of 2020, has emerged as a masterpiece that has drawn great interest from generations of cultures not only in Asia but also around the world. BTS made a splash on the global stage, reaching over 1 billion views on YouTube. Thanks to them, they are making a ripple effect of boosting tourist arrivals to Korea. The “Korean Wave,” which has now become synonymous with the country itself, is extending its reach and breaking into Korean dramas, cuisine, pop music, film, clothing, beauty and the language itself. Today, Korea is among the world’s top ten exporters of culture. The Korean Wave is currently receiving another boost from platforms such as Twitter, Facebook, and YouTube, allowing it to spread even further.
The Delicious
Korean food is synonymous with health food, a fact that has been receiving increasing attention around the world. Korean meals are full of a rich assortment of vegetables, abundant seafood and a variety of fermented foods represented by Kimchi, all offering a variety of favors while promoting health. Participants will enjoy cuisine originally feasted on by the kings of ancient dynasties including Galbi (barbecued tenderized beef rib), Bulgogi (barbecued minced beef), Bibimbap (rice mixed with vegetables and spicy sauce) and Korea’s popular liquor, Soju. You will commonly see street vendors selling Tteokbokki (rice cake and vegetables simmered in a spicy sauce) and other tasty snacks.
